Emeritus Professor Matti Huttunen studied musicology and theoretical philosophy at the University of Turku, where he earned his doctorate in musicology in 1993. He also completed the third-level flute examination at the Sibelius Academy in 1987.

 

Huttunen has served as a lecturer and senior lecturer at the Helsinki Conservatory and as a professor of performance studies at the Sibelius Academy. His areas of expertise include the history of musical thought and doctrine, the history of performance art, and music philosophy.

 

In 2017, he was awarded the Pro Musica Foundation’s recognition award. Last year, he published an essay collection titled ”Music, Ideas, History: Texts from 1990 to 2022.
