Erkki Louko (born 1994) began to play the violin at the age of five at the Espoo music institute. In 2007 he entered the Sibelius Academy and continued his studies with Janne Malmivaara and Merit Palas. Today he is studying at the Royal Northern College of Music in Manchester with professor Yair Kless. Erkki has participated in numerous master classes in Finland and abroad, e.g. with Ana Chumanchenko and Christian Tetzlaff.
Erkki Louko has had success in several violin competitions. For example in Jyväskylä, Erkki was second in 2007 and won the first prize in 2009. In the Kuopio national violin competition 2015 he reached the finals. In 2015-2016 Erkki participated in the concerto competition arranged by the Royal Northern College of Music and won the first prize.
In 2015 Erkki Louko formed a piano trio with Wayne Known (cello) and Victor Lim (piano). The trio has had success in several competitions and has been awarded many prizes.
Louko has performed as a soloist with Tapiola Sinfonietta, Kuopio City Orchestra and Jyväskylä Sinfonia and has given recitals in music festivals in Finland and abroad. Erkki Louko plays a violin made by Giuseppe Gagliano in 1760, a loan from The Finnish Cultural Foundation.
